Corporate risk management or " Risk Management" has become popular in recent years due to various corporate scandals, government investigations and disasters. Though some in the risk management industry often refer to Enterprise Risk Management ( ERM) when discussing risk management, it is my opinion that this is really about the mitigation and minimization of legal risk and exposure. Such legal issues include class actions, product liability claims and lawsuits, government investigations, fines and shareholder actions to name a few. Hence this book is really about the study of legal risk or Legal Risk Management ( "LRM" ) and what concerns, processes and procedures should be discussed and implemented when instituting a Legal Risk Management Program. This book describes many of the processes and activities that have been developed through my experience to manage and control corporate and legal risks faced by most companies today. It is not meant to be exhausitve or all encompassing, but to describe the basic LRM processes a corporate manager or in-house counsel should consider when protecting the organization.

Bryan E. Hopkins is a Professor of Law in the Graduate School of Business, Sejong University, Seoul, Korea. He is a past General Counsel of Samsung Electronics America and has counselled multinational corporations and subsidiaries throughout the world on managing and mitigating legal risk and exposure.
